Sex workers around the world are deeply affected by COVID-19 and are facing loss of income, potentially compromising their health, and while still suffering from stigma and discrimination. The Sex Workers Outreach Project-USA stands in solidarity with all sex workers and we are dedicated to helping and protecting our community survive, thrive, and prosper, even in these uncertain times. As we navigate this together, we will continue sharing resources and opportunities, providing outreach, hosting our national calls, explaining harm reduction techniques, and uplifting our beautiful community members.
SWOP-USA also acknowledges and stands in solidarity with sex workers experiencing incarceration in jails, prisons, and detention centers. The conditions in these facilities are inhumane and no one should be punished for participating in consensual sex work. Our mission as always is to get these people released and safely back to their families and communities.
SWOP-USA has already begun dispersing aid to individual sex workers nation wide via Chapters and Projects and will continue to work with community partners and donors to raise additional funds to disperse while sex workers’ modes of income have been halted. We have put together this website that has information about Sex Work & COVID-19 and will be updating it while more new information and resources as they come in. We have always survived as a community and this is no different–we are here for you. Please take care of yourselves as best as possible, seek medical attention if you feel symptoms, and know that you are loved and valued.
Our national SWOP helpline is (877) 776-2004. If you have questions or are in need of financial assistance, please check out our page with local and national relief funds.
